Vehicle Overview
This car (Grrrowlr) started as a 1971 Series III E Type 2+2 Coupe, rescued as a barn find about seven years ago. The odometer shows about 55,000 miles, but less than 100 miles have been added since the 5,000+ hour conversion was completed. The goal of this project was to create a higher performance E Type than what Jaguar was able to produce in 1971 to compete against the likes of the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Muira.Grrrowlr was kept as period correct as possible in appearance and function as it was heavily modified: the roof was lowered 3 to 4 inches to provide a sleeker and more aesthetically pleasing profile than the original 2+2 configuration. The rear, including tail lights, was altered to mirror the attractive shape of the Series I E Type. The front was also modified with unique grille work and the addition of brake ducts. The original V12 engine is present with the addition of six Weber carburetors, racing cam shafts, and larger valves. Custom cooling and dry sump oil systems were designed, fabricated, and installed. A 5-speed manual transmission was added with a lightweight flywheel. Custom headers were sourced from Scotland with the balance of the exhaust system designed and fabricated by Motorcars Incorporated. Brakes have been custom fabricated as have the wheels. As a result, Grrrowlr's performance has been significantly enhanced and the exhaust note generating from the Weber-carbed V12 is sonic bliss.
Grrrowlr has been meticulously detailed and painted. The interior is custom with the finest leather hides sourced from England. The dash even features vintage Heuer rally clocks. The boot has been redesigned, removing the 2+2 backseat to recreate the look of a Series I Coupe. A custom paint job, costing in excess of $20,000, was performed with the paint code sourced directly from a certain Italian marque.
More work and effort have been put into the car than is captured in this brief description. Grrrowlr is unique and custom-built, following the tradition established by coach builders of the past, such as Zagato. The level of craftsmanship is second-to-none. As a result, Grrrowlr has won multiple concours competitions, including regional JCNA-judged events and the Sunday in the Park Concours held at Lime Rock Park.
